Crazy Day Spent in the Emergency Room
Today I went to the E.R. and stayed for four hours. So here is what happened
Mom was going to come over to so I could give a small project for her to work on. She was going to be at my house around 9am so we could get the ins and outs of the project settled and she could take care of it from there. Well I woke up early and went to go work out. On my way home I got a call from mom and she said that she though she broke her toe. So I went home, cleaned up and grabbed all gear, since I have had a broken foot in the past, and even though it wouldnt fit her as it would have been to big, at least her foot would be protected.
I got over there and she showed me her toe…YOWZA it looks really bad! So we were debating about where would be the best place to go. If we went to the general physician he would just send us to ER to get an x-ray. I called care now and they said all they would do is just do x-ray and maybe give a boot, but not give any pain meds. So she decided the best thing to do was to go to the ER. So away we went! While we were waiting to get invited to the back we saw some friend come in and we waited with them. Turns out one of them might have to get their tonsils removed or something along those lines…no fun there.
So we got called back and she had all the preliminary things done, such as temp, blood pressure, and other stuff; and then they send her back to the general waiting room. Another 40 minutes passes by and we get invited to the room they have set aside. I LOVE to eat ice, so they had a few ice machines in the hall, with the good sonic type ice that is soft and oh so good to chew and eat. So during the wait I had to grab me a few cups. ^_^
Finally they brought in the x-ray machine and took pics, and again we waited some more. The really awesome and extremely nice nurse came back in and gave mom a pain killing shot, but she said that it was more painful than the issue with her toes, and it hurt worse to. While we await the results of the x-ray, we watched a few show that where playing on the TV such as Man, Woman, Wild and a few other shows to kill the time. Even trying to kill time on the phone was pointless due to crappy reception the phone batteries were tanking fast.
Eventually the doctor came in said the toe wasn’t broken, which is a relief, but it appears to be dislocated and they would give her a shot of morphine and reset it. So 10 minutes after the shot they reset it. Mom said it was extremely painful but after it was done, nothing changed, the toe went right back to its position. So they said be right back and took another look at x-ray. More time passed and he came back in and said it appears that she tore the tendons in the toe. He recommended she talk to an orthopedics within next day or to, then he said he thinks that she might have to get pins in her toes to make it work right. So they give her a prescription of some pain meds, a blue walking shoe (since mine was WAY too big for her), and they send us on our way. FREEDOM time so we went to drop off her prescriptions and get some food!
Whew! This was a completely hectic day, and not at all how I imagined it would go.
